Highlighting Wheat Heat and Drought Research: AHEAD is launching its own webpage

(Berlin) Global temperatures are rising and news about decreasing wheat yields caused by heat and drought are increasing. As wheat is making up 20 % of the calories and protein consumed worldwide, modern agriculture is seeking for solutions for problems caused by the climate crisis. How does science contribute to this? What technologies can be used to adapt wheat to heat and drought?

The researchers of the Alliance for Wheat Adaptation to Heat and Drought (AHEAD) committed their work to this research field and, by joining AHEAD, addressing this question on a global level. But what is AHEAD, who are the names behind and how is it organised?

So far, these questions were briefly answered on a subpage of the Wheat Initiative website. However, after one year of consolidation AHEAD is moving “ahead” to create its own space to publish information about the AHEAD members, their research projects and their publications, useful literature or funding information.

For this reason the AHEAD coordination office is happy to announce the launch of its new website: www.ahead-wheat.org, which provides detailed information about AHEAD. Visit www.ahead-wheat.org and find out more about the foundation of AHEAD and its close connection to the Wheat Initiative. Get to know the AHEAD members, the members of the steering committee and learn more about the research, which is being performed to address the heat and drought related problems.

To create more awareness the AHEAD global coordination office also decided to implement a Twitter account: @AHEAD_wheat. News about the projects, about wheat heat and drought research and funding opportunities for wheat researchers will be shared on the new AHEAD Twitter Account. Follow us and stay informed what happens in this research field and how our scientific network contribute to this.

The climate crisis has many faces, stagnating or decreasing wheat yield due to heat and drought is one of it. AHEAD goal is to enhance the visibility for this research field and highlight the effort of the researchers worldwide.
